Tailored shift dress in lightweight wool

Don't be thrown by the word "wool" - I wore this dress to an event in Florida in July, and was perfectly comfortable. It's basically a light, all-weather fabric that will work as well in winter as summer. I bought this dress in blue, and really like it. There's enough detailing at the neckline and waist that it's not generic, but it still pairs nicely with a sweater or blazer. I'm 5'6", 140 lbs, and I got a size 8. It's a smidge big at the bust/armholes but not noticeable to anyone but me. I expect that I'll wear it a lot, and I'm considering getting it in another color. My only quibble is the pockets. I LOVE pockets, and will buy a dress just for that. But these pockets are placed a bit high-up and a bit forward - and are also too small. I don't expect to be able to carry my wallet and phone in a dress pocket, but I do expect to be able to stick my hands in them without half my hand sticking out. On this dress they're are more a detail than any sort of functional pocket.

Classic, simple dress. Material is lightweight but not cheap at all and true to size. I always wear a size 4 dress, and this fit with just a little wiggle room. Perfect for work, one of those dresses that can always save you in a fashion pinch!

I was a little worried that this dress might be too big in the top and small around the hips (as has been the case with some J Crew dresses for me). I am 5' 5", 125 lbs, and I usually wear a size 4 at Banana Republic and a size 6 at J Crew. I ordered a 6, and it fits perfectly! It's lightweight for summer, and perfect for the office. It could be easily dressed up for a wedding or evening event. It hits at the knee, so it's fairly conservative, but the neckline is very flattering for my shoulders and collar bone. Love, love, love it!

A very attractive, classic dress that will be great for a variety of occasions! I'm 5'7" and 120 lbs and the size 2 fits really well. Fairly form-fitting and the skirt hits about 2-3" above the knee. The fabric is a great weight that could work for all seasons. One drawback is that the lining on the skirt does tend to show when I sit down. The only other thing that could improve this dress would be pockets!

I really like this dress. I purchased it in the darker blue and I'm going back now to purchase it in black. It's very flattering and really light fabric! I live in Miami so I was worried it would be too heavy, but it's perfect for the weather down here. Throw on a blazer and you're powering to your next meeting :)
