Great staple dress
September 2, 2025I love love love this dress! I got it in the green plaid and get so many compliments on it. I see the description says it runs small but I did not find this to be the case for myself. I got a size 4 for when I was a size 4 and I have since then gained some weight so I'd say I average around size 6 but can at times where a size 8 and this dress has fit me during the fluctuations, obviously being a bit more snug in areas but not uncomfortably so. The material has some stretch so I think that's why. I will say the area I notice the most that gets a little too small is the chest area. There will be some gaping in the buttons when it's tighter so I will either have to wear something underneath or put a sweater over top which is still very cute. Overall I would buy again and again! If the green comes back I will gladly get this dress in a size 6 to wear for an even more comfortable fit!

Christmas Dress two years in a row!
October 31, 2021This is the perfect Christmassy Plaid dress! I wore it for Christmas last year and fully intend to wear it this year. One thing about J. Crews button up dresses: size up to accommodate a larger bust. I wear an 8 or 10 usually but have found I need a 12 in button downs for the buttons not to pull at the chest.

Perfect Holiday Dress
February 19, 2021I bought this dress so that I would be ready for the holidays coming season. I usually wear a 0 or a 2, but after reading the reviews, I went with the 4. Glad I did. It fits perfect. It’s has kind of old 50’s vibe, where it is mid calf & a full shirt. I’m 4’11”, 62 Y.O. And my daughters think it looks amazing on me. It’s a cotton fabric with no sheen, so you can dress it up or dress it down. When I get it back from being pressed, I will upload a picture.

LOVE this dress - size up
February 11, 2021What a gorgeous holiday dress. I first ordered this and had it stolen by a porch pirate. :( Kept watching and reordered when it became available again. I am 122lbs, 5'5, 36B, typical J.Crew Size 6, and *definitely* needed a size 8 given the chest area is very limited (if you're a C or higher, your buttons would pop open post-wash). Plus, the shoulders/elbows also appear to run small. Given it's a belted and pre-wash cotton dress, I'd say definitely go up a size. The belt will give you a forced waist no matter what. A must-buy, porch pirates be darrrrned!

Runs small, size up!
January 22, 2021Many reviewers mentioned that this dress runs small and to size up. I wasn't sure, since some of the reviews seemed to be from people about the same dimensions as me. But I'm here to say that YES, you should definitely size up. I'm a pretty standard size 2 in Jcrew and many other brands. I ordered the 2, since they were sold out of size 4 at the time. The size 2 is way small for me at the bust and waistband. The shoulders are narrow and the sleeves are short. The dress is also very short waisted. So yeah, the size 2 is definitely too small for me. I'm 5'4" and 120 pounds, 34A bust size. The material and finishing are ok. I wish the skirt were fuller and had more of a flared style. And the collar is very small and skimpy.
