Calvert boots

This boot is great. I noticed some complaining that they are stiff compared to the Macalister boot. It's true. They are stiff in comparison. But unlike that boot, due to it's stiffness, it maintains it's shape for much longer. The Macalister's soft suede becomes misshapen after several wears. This boot maintains it's integrity. It's a sturdier shoe, with the same look and harder sole compared to the crepe sole of the aforementioned. This is not a downside though. They aren't stiff to the point where they are uncomfortable. If one wants a good shoe that maintains it's look & doesn't easily conform to say a wide foot shape, thereby ruining the look of the shoe, this is it. If one is looking for a great all around boot to complement clothing from casual to dressy attire, this is it. If you like the soft feel of the other, hey. Otherwise purchase these & you won't be disappointed. Jcrew please don't change these for a few folks who want identical for cheap. Both boots serve their purpose.

The style of these boots are great, however, breaking them in was a horrible experience. I usually wore high socks that covered my ankles but the shoes managed to break through and scraped up my ankles. These are not very comfortable to walk in.

Aesthetically, the shoes look exactly what I envisioned, an everyday suede Chuka boot ideal for jeans or khakis. I immediately put them on and begrudgingly noticed the heel reinforcement cut into my ankle. I wore them for about an hour and had to take them off. The only way I can wear them is with mole skin inserts. Aesthetically, very nice, wearability not so much.

As another reviewer posted, I'm not sure who decided to call these shoes "dark grey" because they are absolutely black. They are also very tight at the opening. Will be returning them.

My 20-something son loved these shoes and they look great with the brown J. Crew pants I bought him.

I have been looking for a pair of these to replace a pair that I purchased several years ago from J Crew (and have worn out). From the first day, these boots fit & wear perfectly. Great with jeans or with casual pants.
